After idefeat against Vasco da Gama

Betfair joins the fun and makes early payouts to fans who bet on Santos’ relegation

The betting company Betfair made an “early payout” to fans who believed in Santos being relegated to Série B in 2026, following the 6-0 thrashing at MorumBis Stadium against Vasco da Gama. If Neymar’s team does not drop in the 2025 Brasileirão, the company will take responsibility for the decision and make a new payment to those who bet on the teams that will actually be relegated

On a historic Sunday (17), Santos was defeated 6-0 by Vasco da Gama at MorumBis Stadium. With goals from Lucas Piton, David Correa, Rayan, Danilo Neves, and Philippe Coutinho, twice, the team sponsored by Betfair left the Alvinegro Praiano fans and players stunned yesterday afternoon.

Following the negative result, which led to the dismissal of coach Cléber Xavier, the betting house decided to perform an early payout for everyone who had placed bets on Santos being relegated.

Just two points from the relegation zone, the coastal São Paulo club shows a 35% chance (odds of 2.88) of returning to the dreaded Série B. This means that for every R$1 (US$0.18) bet, a person would receive R$2.88 (US$0.53) if the team from Vila Belmiro is indeed relegated.

In the last four years, Betfair has made early payouts on three occasions: twice in the Brasileirão, a few rounds before Atlético-MG and Palmeiras secured their titles, and in 2023 when Fernando Diniz took over as interim coach of the Brazilian National Team and Carlo Ancelotti assumed the position permanently.

Betfair markets remain open for all scenarios in the Brasileirão, including which teams will be relegated.

If Santos is not relegated in the 2025 Brasileirão, Betfair will take responsibility for the decision and make a new payout to those who bet on the teams that are actually relegated.
