Addiction to this type of betting is called ludopathy, according to CNN Brasil. The minister's remarks were made during a public hearing at the Senate's Committee on Economic Affairs (CAE).
'It's time for us to make 'Bets' pay a little more in taxes and direct it especially to healthcare, to ludopathy, this addiction,' the MDB politician reflected.
The minister from Mato Grosso do Sul emphasized that these companies should contribute more to the well-being of the population, given that they generate billions in revenue every year.
The Lula government's initiative regarding 'Bets' predates the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) led by Senator Soraya Thronicke, which exposed the operations of betting sites but ultimately ended without recommending penalties.
Tebet also said she is counting on the National Congress to 'further restrict' the effects of 'Bets' on the Brazilian population.
