São Paulo FC, Superbet and the Salvation Army team up to donate over 2,000 sleeping bags

As São Paulo nights grow increasingly colder, thousands of people living on the streets face this harsh reality. But this August, an inspiring initiative is bringing warmth and hope. What began as a tribute to São Paulo FC in the stands has now been transformed: the massive flag banner created by Superbet has been turned into over 2,000 sleeping bags for the city’s vulnerable population. They were distributed by the Salvation Army on Friday (Aug 1) in downtown São Paulo.

The flag, which covered the upper ring of Morumbis Stadium during January’s victorious match against Corinthians, originally spanned an impressive 22,000 square meters. Now, it's been given a meaningful and responsible second life. Cut and stitched with a new purpose, each sleeping bag carries the passion of football and the mission to offer dignity and protection from the cold.

The more than 13,000 meters of fabric, which once celebrated São Paulo FC’s 95-year legacy, have been carefully transformed into 2,000 high-quality sleeping bags. This solidarity initiative, created by Superbet — the club’s master sponsor — in partnership with the Salvation Army and São Paulo FC, aims to relieve the cold and help those who need it most.

Distribution began on Friday night (Aug 1), in central São Paulo, starting in the Liberdade neighborhood. The collaboration with the Salvation Army — an organization with over a century of credibility in Brazil for its work with vulnerable populations — ensures the aid reaches those in greatest need.

“For Superbet, sport goes beyond the playing field and becomes a powerful platform for social transformation. The flag, which started as a tribute to the team and carried deep emotional meaning for fans, now takes on an even more important chapter,” said Alex Fonseca, CEO of Superbet in Brazil.

“Giving new life to this iconic material, turning the banner into sleeping bags, is a tangible example of our mission to create change through sport and entertainment. It's an honor to see this initiative bring warmth to those who need it most, showcasing the true power of football to change lives,” he added.

“For us at the Salvation Army, it’s a privilege to join forces to help those in need. We know that for the most vulnerable, a cold night can be life-threatening. Giving someone a sleeping bag is not just a social action — it's a gesture of love, care, and compassionate presence,” said Captain Josiane Martinez, Territorial Secretary for Community Relations.

“That’s the mission of the Salvation Army: to serve suffering humanity, to be alongside those who need us most, offering not only material support, but also hope.”

This action reinforces the commitment of Superbet and São Paulo FC to the community, showing that the greatness of a club and a brand is also measured by their ability to make a positive impact in people’s lives.
