GMB – What does it mean for GLI to take part in an event in Brazil that discussed technology and integrity in the sports betting market?
Georges Didier Flores – For GLI, it is very important to support events that promote knowledge, technology, and the security that must be present in all platforms operating in Brazil. The country already has a very solid and robust regulatory framework, with modern concepts, and it is important that everything works very well.
GLI is very well positioned, having been one of the first to receive authorization from the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA). What does this mean for the company in a country that is shaping up to be one of the largest markets in the world?
At GLI, we were working for Brazil long before regulation. We visited the country several times to establish contact even before the Secretariat was created. It is very important for us to be with our partners and have a strong presence in the market. We were among the first to be accredited by the SPA, as well as in state-level operations. This demonstrates our commitment to supporting the industry and making it sustainable, safe, transparent, and with integrity.
Is that why you appointed Hugo to work in Brazil?
We believe it is always very important to localize resources. He has been with us since July and works directly with clients, operators, and manufacturers. At the same time, he provides support to federal regulators and state lotteries.
Is it a big challenge for you to take on such an important role at GLI?
Hugo Leite – Yes. GLI is a global company, with a strong presence in Latin America. The company understands that Brazil is a priority market that must receive special and proper attention, especially regarding integrity and being present in the development of regulation.
More and more states and municipalities are talking about implementing their lotteries. Is GLI prepared for this new moment in Brazil?
Yes. GLI is analyzing this situation with great caution, as there is still ongoing legal debate about municipal and state lotteries. But we always aim to remain open to dialogue and development in the face of the challenges that arise.
There is talk of VLTs and land-based betting terminals. GLI was born in the land-based market, and now this is starting to open up in Brazil. Are there major prospects in this regard?
There is discussion in Congress about the land-based market in Brazil. As I mentioned, GLI is closely monitoring these developments and, in fact, it is a potential market that deserves attention, as it is of interest to several international operators. However, we are approaching it with caution and remain open to dialogue should this be the decision of the National Congress.
What are GLI’s next steps in Brazil’s regulated market?
Georges Didier Flores – We will continue to support the industry and follow all new regulatory processes and developments, including state lotteries as you mentioned. In the same way, we will remain very close to the sector across Latin America. We want to be alongside operators, manufacturers, and regulators, closely following the processes to ensure a safe, transparent, and integral industry.
