The number of hits recorded by legal betting houses in the country was almost three times higher than in August 2024: the same set of bets monitored by Aposta Legal had 761 million hits a year ago, a jump of approximately 190%.
The significant increase in hits reflects not only the popularization of betting houses, but also the ability for brands to advertise freely online, investing in advertising and redirecting traffic to their homepages, following regulation in January 2025.
What explains the growth of sports betting platforms?
August's performance may have been driven by the resumption of the sports calendar, with decisive matches in Brazilian and international soccer, as well as the growing popularity of online casino games such as Tigrinho, Aviator, and Spaceman.
According to official data from the Ministry of Finance, fixed-odds betting companies generated R$17.4 billion (US$3.3bn) in revenue in the first half of the year, excluding player prizes.
With August's record results, it is estimated that in July and August alone, the sector generated the equivalent of 38% of its revenue for the entire first half of the year, signaling a trend of accelerating profits.
