"BMM is strengthening its presence in Brazil with local support including for municipal lotteries"

BMM, a global testing and certification laboratory, has just expanded its operations in Brazil with the opening of its own laboratory in São Paulo. The company has invested in this project to adequately comply with federal, state, and now municipal regulations. Edgar Rivero, Business Development Manager, attended the recent Municipal Lotteries Congress to connect with local players and spoke with GMB about this new phase for the company.

GMB – BMM is now approaching municipal lotteries in Brazil. What does this new step represent for one of the most important laboratories in the world?
Edgar Rivero – It’s a very important step, just like others we are taking here in Brazil, with the launch of our laboratory to conduct local testing. The lab is located in São Paulo and will provide support to the Federal Government, as well as to States and Municipalities. That’s why it’s important for us to be present here—building relationships, getting to know people, and taking part [in all the movements in the country].

Not only regarding online gaming, but also concerning VLTs. Are you already qualified for that?
Yes, absolutely. BMM has more than four decades in the global market, working with retail, land-based, and, of course, digital.

BMM already holds a federal license from the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting and from states such as Paraná and Rio de Janeiro. How has this approach been so far, and what can the municipal lottery sector expect from BMM?
Well, from BMM they can always expect commitment, quality, and professionalism. We attended the Analome event precisely to get closer, to understand, to learn, and also to identify what the municipal lotteries will need now and in the future.

Brazil has been positioning itself globally as a major player. Can you confirm this based on the number of projects already developed for Brazilian operators?
Yes, absolutely. Brazil is like a continent in terms of the number of games, platforms, and operators, which demonstrates the seriousness of the sector—not to mention the regulation the country has put in place, which has been very well developed. For that reason, we are very pleased to be here.

BMM has just officially inaugurated its laboratory in Brazil. What are the plans within this new context for one of the world’s most recognized laboratories?
To serve Brazil with a focus on the country itself. We will serve local companies with local staff, who will be testing games, working with Brazilians in Portuguese, and with BMM’s full focus on the country.

Were there difficulties in training BMM’s Brazilian team?
Not difficulties, no. We are working on it. It’s a very large development and constantly evolving. We acquired a video game evaluation lab, and on that very solid base—four floors, 180 employees, and contracts with top-tier companies—we are transforming and developing them with all the technical capabilities they already have, aligned to BMM’s work standards, since we comply with international accreditations and fully adhere to local regulations. It’s a continuous development that takes time and will keep progressing.

Was this training carried out by the Spain unit?
Yes. Or rather, it wasn’t… it still is. As I said, it’s an ongoing process, and it will continue because there is always something to improve, knowledge to absorb, and additional standards to implement—always complying with all requirements.

In other words, can the federal, state, and municipal governments rely on BMM?
Absolutely. As can operators, game suppliers, payment providers, and the entire gaming industry in general.
